EDL To Autoconform Route
1

Shoot on negative film with bar-code key numbers in the normal way with clapperboards/Aaton timecode.

2
Send the negative for processing and telecine preparation to the laboratory.
3
Telecine the negative to video tape at one light only.
4
Send mute video tapes to PAL for synching.
5
Send the negative to PNC for logging into the OSC/R system via the bar-code reading synchronisers
6
Edit the production on a non-linear (off-line) system. Upon completion and approval, produce an edit decision list (Vision only A mode CMX3600 format.)
7 Import EDL into the OSC/R system and, via the negative database created during the logging process, translate the original one light video timecode's into frame accurate key numbers. Add extra frames (handles), which can be from one frame to 25 feet in length, or whole takes can be pulled as per customer's instructions. See also 7a
8
Cut the original negative into an over-length single roll, as per cutting list, from the OSC/R system. Shots which overlap due to the size of the handles are automatically amalgamated to form one single over-length section of negative. Extensions of negative that are required for mixes or fades are also allowed for in the OSC/R over-length negative pulling list.
9
Re-log the over-length single roll negative back into the OSC/R system via the bar-code reading synchronisers, while at the same time allocating a new master timecode to the roll for the new EDL. Translate edit list key numbers into the over-length negative key numbers and produce an on-line EDL via the OSC/R software. Also available are grading discs which can speed up the grading session.
10
Fully grade and telecine the over-length negative single roll onto one or two digital tapes (two identical tapes considerably speeds-up the auto conform, which more than covers the extra tape costs.)
11
Auto conform the over-length video tapes in the on-line edit suite via the OSC/R EDL onto a final digital master tape which will remove all unwanted handles and add mixes and fades.

Cutting Copy To Autoconform
If the final edited picture is on a traditional one light rush print cutting copy, the above route is also available by following steps 8 to 11.

EDl To Final Print
Follow steps 1 to 6 above, then:
7a Import EDL into the OSC/R system and translate the edit timecode's into frame accurate key numbers. Produce a negative cutting list in the traditional way that so that show prints can be produced. Unless duplicate negatives are made, re-use of negative is not possible using this route. OSC/R will, however, supply appropriate warnings.
12 Cut the negative in the traditional way using a frame accurate list produced by OSC/R. This process is performed by key numbers only but, if required, a supplied copy of the edit on VHS can be used as a final check. Approximately 15% of all non-linear edited work follows this route, as prints are still required for some final telecine and theatrical releases.
