The OSC/R System   The Advantages of OSC/R

We believe the OSC/R system can only be described as the biggest technical advance that has happened to negative post production since the introduction of film edge numbers.Film Cells

OSC/R's powerful film/video list management system locks together every frame of negative film and its associated key number to every frame of video timecode. This process happens regardless of film speed because OSC/R can work with 24/25/30 fps PAL video or NTSC video material.

Film ReelOSC/R works with keynumber bar-codes. These enable us to import key numbers from negative and positive film, via special synchronisers, direct into the OSC/R system in a high speed and totally error free operation.Film Reel

OSC/R also has a video on-line finishing option. This allows unlimited re-use of shots using the same negative material, together with the option to replace cut negative back into the original camera roll if whole takes are extracted. This option is ideal when, for example, the negative is required in two different length productions.Film Reel

The use of different film formats and different film speeds in video finished productions creates no problems for OSC/R's adaptable software.

PNC are probably the most experienced operators of OSC/R in the UK.

OSC/R Save You Money
  • One light video transfers can be made onto reusable tapes at a fraction of the cost of grading all negatives onto digital non-reusable video tapes.
OSC/R Saves Time
  • Because the over-length graded tapes are only about 10% longer than the finished program and in edit order, the video tape players take little time to find each shot at the on-line edit session, and the auto conform time is thus shortened tremendously. If, however, the entire negative had been transferred, there could be as many as 40 digital tapes from which to conform. Each one of these would have to be loaded and spooled through to find each required shot.
  • Every producer knows that on-line editing can be very expensive. By using the OSC/R route cost savings can be gained and so enable producers working within tight budgets to release money for other post production costs.
More Grading Control
  • Negative cut as an over-length single roll is assembled with all shots in edit order.
  • This means that when the negative is graded, prior to the final telecine, only the relevant negative is used. This is particularly advantageous for the careful grading of shots forming a continuous scene or sequence.
  • Had all negative been transferred to graded digital tapes it would still have been necessary to colour-correct most, if not all shots to suit the edit order, which would not of been known at the original grading session.
